What Makes People Happy in Life? The Secret Formula to Success!

Do you want to understand what makes people happy? Finding happiness is easy to achieve when you incorporate three simple keys of success to your chosen areas of life, work and relationships.

Happiness is simply about finding a way to balance needs and wants in relation to yourself and others. It is important to note that there are direct and indirect ways of achieving these types of outcomes.

First let's examine the What Makes People Happy Diagram:

What Makes People Happy Diagram

Achieving success and happiness begins with an even-handed application from all three categories of time, energy and resources. The following table has been provided to give you some ideas and to further clarify the individual categories.

Categories

Time can be seen as giving attention or focus to a situation or observing and/or listening to a person or group.

Energy can be seen as the effort you put into a project or performing an action for the benefit of either yourself or another person/group.

Resources can be seen as tangible items like money or goods, or intangible ones like knowledge or skills.

Generally speaking, situations where you're not happy will be due to one or more of these categories not being represented or being underrepresented.

A further layer to the Model of "What Makes People Happy" is that of Direct and Indirect utilization of Time, Energy and Resources as shown in the 2nd Diagram:

The following examples contain a theme that relates to families, even if you don't have children have a read through and think about how these ideas could transfer to your situation:

Direct:
  • Reading a story to your child/ren
  • Blowing bubbles for your child/ren
  • Going to the zoo and patting animals with your child/ren

Indirect:

  • Researching nutrients of a particular food
  • Discussing child-raising techniques with other parents
  • Comparing prices of children's clothes from various websites

There needs to be a considered balance of both direct and indirect approaches. Although of course a very young child would probably only recognise direct examples of care and this would need to be taken into consideration. Therefore use common sense to direct the timing of either approach to suit your personal circumstances.

So in summary apply Direct and Indirect uses of:

Time + Energy + Resources = Happiness and Success (in life)

...and consider how you, your projects or other people could potentially benefit.
